Why Join a Church?

 Leader:

 What Is A Church?

It is....

...The Body of Christ

Jesus said, "I am the Vine, you are the branches." As long as we stay connected to Jesus He is able to supply us with everything we need. We gain our life, our strength, our hope from Him. He guides, directs and blesses us. The church is our source of life, our connection to Jesus Christ.

...God's Gift To Us

God established the church as a special place for His children. Despite ridicule and persecution, the church has remained a source of hope and strength in a troubled world. The modern church fills needs that are as strong today as ever.

...Your Spiritual Home

Life is full of complex problems and few answers. But the church can help you find the answers you need and the strength to live with the questions.

"So then, you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are citizens with the saints and members of the household of God" (Eph. 2:19-20)

You'll find the answers you need as we pray together--communicating with God; as we fellowship --sharing time and support with each other; as we worship--praising God and listening to His word; and as we join in the Lord's Supper together--the great meal in which Jesus gives us spiritual nourishment and forgiveness.

...A Family

In many ways the church is like other families. Each member belongs to Christ and to each other. Like all families, the church isn't perfect. Church members are human--each with weaknesses and strengths. We all struggle in our attempt to live as Jesus would.

Each member of a church family is important. God has given each person unique gifts which they can use and which are needed to give strength and life to the church. As everyone is involved in working together the church grows stronger--just like a family.

...A Source of Loving Support

Problems shared with friends are only half as difficult and joys shared with friends are twice as happy. This little saying is especially true about the church. Sharing life triumphs and failures can bring new energy and new spirit.

Church members can share in the joy of marriage, birth and success in jobs, school and personal life. Other's concern and help during times of illness or troubles can raise spirits. Church members can help each other face the challenges of living in this world.

"Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things."

...A Community In Action

Like any family, the church has a goal--to proclaim the Good News that Jesus is the Savior of the world. To achieve that goal, church members are busy.

bullet Bible Study--discussion and reflection can help make Christ's teachings and example meaningful for modern life.
bullet Prayer-- talking to God is a vital part of our action. As we open our hearts to God in prayer, we prepare ourselves for His answers which come through His word.
bullet Talents--all types of skills and abilities are needed and used within a church. No one needs to feel unneeded.
bullet Treasure--Money and goods can help the church pay expenses, help those in need and spread God's word too.
bullet Witness--Church members speak out with words and actions. It's their opportunity and their duty to spread God's love.

In Short

Joining a church helps you discover your faith and live in more fully. The church needs you and your special gifts from God. Your presence will bring joy to everyone. You need the church to grow in your love, knowledge and service of God.
